Kathleen A. Atkisson

Kathy practices criminal and family law and other civil litigation matters.  Kathy is retired from the US Navy Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps as a senior officer after serving twenty five years. Kathy graduated from Emory University School of Law in 1990.  Upon graduation she joined the US Navy as a JAG and had assignments in criminal defense, prosecution and administrative law.  She was the sole legal counsel for a ship with a crew of more than 1200.  She finished her active duty career as an Assistant Professor at the US Naval Academy where she won the prestigious Apgar Award.  She also was awarding the Giniss Award for top graduate of the Naval War College Nonresident Program in International Affairs.  After leaving active duty and affiliating with the reserves, Kathy had assignments at the Pentagon, as an Appellate Counsel in Washington DC and finally with the Defense International Institute of Legal Studies in Newport, RI.  Kathy first joined C & E in 2007.  She has taken 2 periods of absence to experience living abroad with her family and to earn her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology.  Kathy is a licensed therapist with a specialty in substance abuse.  She brings her new experiences back to the law to create a much different lawyer experience.
