Kathleen A. Atkisson graduated cum laude from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1987. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia in 1990. Upon graduation from law school, Mrs. Atkisson accepted a commission in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps. Mrs. Atkisson's first military assignment was in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where she served as trial counsel, defense counsel and Branch Head of Legal Assistance and Command Services at NAS Barber's Point, Hawaii. She continued her active duty JAG career with assignments at sea onboard USS DIXON (AS 37) and as an Assistant Professor of Military Law at the United States Naval Academy. Mrs. Atkisson left active duty in 1998 and continues to serve in the Reserve Component of the Navy JAG Corps.

Mrs. Atkisson is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. She clerked for the Honorable Warren J. Krug, Administrative Judge, Calvert County Circuit Court from 2005-2007. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Calvert County Bar Association and Reserve Officers Association. She is married to Mark Atkisson and has 2 children, RJ and Mary-Madison. The family resides in Calvert County. She concentrates her practice in litigation, specializing in criminal and family law. She possesses an in delpth knowledge of military law and benefits.
